About The Classic at Damien

The Classic at Damien is a premier post-Christmas boys high school basketball tournament, which is anticipated to draw the best teams from Southern California and beyond to battle it out on the hardwood from December 26-30.

The tournament, in its inaugural year, will feature 48 teams in three brackets - Gold, Silver and Bronze - grouped based upon strength of the program. Games will take place in four different venues: Damien High's Athletic Center, a newly-refurbished Damien Event Complex, San Dimas High and Life Pacific College in San Dimas.

Among the teams already committed to the 2016 Classic at Damien are perennial powerhouse Santa Ana Mater Dei, 2016 California DI State Champion Encino Crespi, 2016 California DII State Runners' Up Long Beach Poly, Inland Empire power Corona Centennial, Woodland Hills Taft, Las Vegas Centennial and Hayward Moreau Catholic.

Coming from 210 heading East – Off at Foothill Blvd, Right on Damien Ave, proceed to high school.  Coming from 210 heading West - Off at Foothill Blvd.  Turn Left onto Foothill Blvd, Turn Right onto Damien Ave. proceed to high school.  Coming from 57 Fwy, heading North.  Off at Arrow Highway, go straight at off ramp onto Bonita Ave.  Head West on Bonita Ave, in 2 or 3 miles, Damien High School is on right on the corner of Bonita and Damien Ave.

San Dimas High School and Life Pacific are right next to each other separated by Lone Hill St.

Parking:  At Damien – Team Busses must park on street adjacent to high school.  Team Vans can park on campus, of course at no charge.  You will be directed to park in parking lot next to Event Center.  All Spectator parking will have a $5.00 charge.  Please notify your parents and fans when possible.

At San Dimas and Life Pacific College – Team Busses and Vans, park in school parking lot nearest baseball field.  There is no charge for spectators.

Admission -  Damien High School -  All team personnel will enter at the players entrance.  In the Athletic Center (Gold) entrance is to the right side of the gym, to the right of the tents.  In the Event Center (Silver), entrance is to the right of the main glass doors.  Follow the signs.

At San Dimas High School and Life Pacific there will be only 1 entrance.  

Note:  If players would like to come back to watch other games, please have players enter at players entrance door.  Be ready to show their participant badge and school ID card or driver’s license.  Monday – Wednesday there will be no charge.  Thursday and Friday they will enter at main gate and pay student entrance fee.

All Schools will receive a packet with all passes upon arrival on Monday, December 26.

Admission Prices at the Tournament for the public will be as follows:

Please inform your parents and fans when possible of the Admission prices.

All players, coaches, officials, media, sponsors and VIP, will enter at the pass gate (players entrance).  All C.I.F. passes will also enter at the pass gate.  We will need ID and record pass number.  We will not be honoring any other passes for the tournament.

Hospitality Room:  All Coaches will have access to Tournament Hospitality Room which is located in large tent towards the classrooms, halfway between both gyms.  The Hospitality Room is only for Coaches, Staff, Sponsors, and VIP’s.  Lunch served each day from 11:00am until 3:00pm; and Dinner will be served from 4:00 until 8:00.  Beverages will be available in room at all times.  There will be a Continental Breakfast available from 9:00 – 11:00 each morning.

Media:  Media will enter gyms at Damien HS through entrances on the west side of gyms.  Please confirm you have a CIF Press or Photo pass, or contact Melissa Mallari at (805) 416-6768, or melmallari3@gmail.com to secure credentials and working space.  There will be an area on the second floor behind the north basket that will serve as the media working area.  There will be access to electrical, internet, table seating, and private conference room.  In addition, their will be an interview room behind the east bleachers.  The media director will assist in getting players and coaches to interview room when the need or interest arises.

Tournament Website:  The tournament will have its own dedicated Web Page.  You can find it at www.classicatdamien.com   It will be constantly updated scores, brackets, and highlights of all the games immediately following the conclusion of each game.

Photographer:  The tournament will have an official photographer.  You can find in the program information as to how you can see the action pictures taken, and how schools and parents can purchase these pictures. Our photographer will be DC Photography.

Tournament Photos

Cheer Squads: Cheer Squads will only be admitted when they are in uniform.  They will also enter thru the pass gate.

Locker Rooms:  There will be (4) locker rooms available for all games in both of the gyms at Damien High School.  There will be (2) locker rooms available at San Dimas High School and Life Pacific College.  Each team will have a storage bins for use to keep your bags, backpacks, with you at all times.

Supervision:  We would ask that while on campus, each team make sure that they have someone (Coach, Assistant, Trainer) that will be responsible to supervise your players.

Uniform Colors:  The top team on the bracket sheet will be designated the home team and wear white uniforms.  The bottom team will wear the dark uniforms.

Water:  Water will be provided for all teams, both on the bench and in the locker room.

Game Ball: The tournament will provide the official game basketball for each game at all four sites.  We will also provide (6) balls for each team to use for warm-ups.  You do not need to bring basketballs to the event if you choose not to.  The balls will be the Spalding Classic 1000.  We thank Spalding for providing us with the official tournament basketballs, with “The Classic at Damien” logo branded on them.

Game Officials:  The Foothill-Citrus Officials Association will schedule games, and also cover the games with a 2 man crew in the Bronze division for all games except the Finals.  The Silver division games will also have 2 officials on each game except the Semi finals and Finals.  The Gold division will utilize a (3) man crew, using officials from multiple assigning areas.

Athletic Trainer:  ‘The Classic at Damien” will provide Trainers at all (4) sites for every game played.  They will do everything that they can to meet your needs.

Official Scorekeeper:  The Tournament will provide the Official Scorekeeper for each game in the tournament.  We will provide space for your scorekeeper also.  

Announcer:  We will announce all games in tournament.  Starting line-ups will only be announced in the semi-finals and finals.

Filming: All games played in the Damien Athletic Center does have space available on a landing area to be able to film from either side of the court.  Games in the Event Center, San Dimas HS, and Life Pacific will sit in the bleachers to film.

Snack Bar:  There will be a Snack Bar at all (4) locations to provide a service to the teams and the public.  

Souvenirs:  They will be a souvenirs table located in the vendor area, under the tent outside of the athletic center.

Programs:  Programs with all 48 teams rosters, brackets, sponsors, advertisers, and daily schedule and recap will be available for sale for $5.00.  Each team will be provided with a program.

Awards:  Team awards will include Champions, Runner Up, Third Place, and Consolation Champions in all (3) divisions.  Individual awards will go to the members of the Champion team in all (3) divisions.  An All-Tournament team of 10 members including a Most Valuable Player award will also be given out in all (3) divisions.  Frank Burlison will head the All-Tournament team selection committee.

Hotel Needs:  The Sheraton Fairplex is serving as the Official Host Hotel of “The Classic at Damien.”  It is located on the site of the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds, located just 3 miles from Damien HS, and 5 miles from San Dimas HS and Life Pacific College.  If you need rooms for either your team or your parents/boosters feel free to call the Sheraton at (909) 868-5935 and ask for Fred Kokash, Sales Manager and mention that you are with the Tournament and get the discount room rates.  Any additional questions, feel free to contact Mike LeDuc and Damien.
